Creating Opportunities: How Internships Like John’s Help Us All Grow

At Traffio, two of our values are "Levelling Up" and "It's Bigger Than Just Us", both implying that we are about doing more than just the norm, and we want to create a space where our team and the communities we service are supported and engaged. Of course people are at the heart of everything we do—our team, our customers, and our wider community are key. That’s why we’re proud to support programs that open doors and provide real pathways into employment for those who may not always have such an opportunity.

One of those programs we have engaged in this year is with CTA and their NDIS Provider that connects people with disabilities to long-term, meaningful work opportunities.

Recently, we welcomed John Sotidis to Traffio for a 10-week internship through the CTA NDIS program. From day one, John has become part of the team—taking part in developing code that you are now seeing in Traffio, sitting in and contributing in team meetings, and even getting involved in our team-building activities, including our recent rowing day.

For John, this internship is about building confidence, gaining practical experience, and developing a clearer understanding of what’s required in a workplace environment. He’s learning everything from time management and workplace communication to how we use our internal systems, tools, and processes. It’s all about giving him the tools to thrive in his next role—whatever that might be. We asked John what he thought and he said "I love it here at Traffio. I love the work environment, the people that I’m working with. It’s been a great experience so far. I’m learning more and more about how coding works. What backends are. JavaScript, html and other such things. It’s giving me more insight to computers. I’ve always been fascinated with computers so the more I get into the workarounds about computers the more comfortable I am to use one more frequently. And I do hope my internship at Traffio will help me become more confident to try out new things and reach new opportunities and hopefully inspire people on the spectrum to get out and try things as well".

Internships here at Traffio are nothing new, we have loved hosting a range of interns. What we’ve found, time and time again, is that internships like this don’t just help the intern. They help us too.

Welcoming an intern into our business gives our team a chance to slow down, reflect, and think differently. It reminds us that everyone learns at their own pace and everyone has great ideas that can contribute to our success. It pushes us to focus on how to be clearer communicators and more thoughtful leaders. And it reinforces our belief that building a successful team isn’t just about hiring talent—it’s about developing it.

The presence of someone like John reminds us why we do what we do. He brings curiosity, and genuine enthusiasm, and an want to learn!
